Graduation

As many may know, I am graduating in December. (That's a semester early!) At this point, having no job, and no plan, I'm wondering why I thought it was such a good idea to begin with... I am feeling quite reluctant to leave school and leave all my friends who are now relishing in their last "fun" semester before buckling down to find a job in the spring. I'm kind of the guinea pig since I'm doing everything a semester early.

Though I'm feeling like a preemie coming into the world way too early, graduating now DOES have some advantages. First, I will save myself about $12,000+interest. That is good for something, right? Second, I have always been very independent and I am sooo looking forward to being able to have my own job with my own salary and my own apartment and my own expenses and possibly a new car and a new cell phone and a whole new routine where I don't have a million bajillion things going on all the time and you get the point. But more importantly, I get to have a graduation party! Woohoo! (It's on December 23rd, if you read my blog, you're invited.) And MOST importantly, I get to tell my family what I want for graduation gifts! Woohoo woohoo! (That was a double woohoo).

So, being that I graduate on December 18th, this brings me to an extremely important question. And no, not "where am I going to work?" or "where am I going to live?" or "how am I going to feed myself and sustain my living?".

The question is: Should I get an iPad?

Or I was thinking a Nook. (But if I have the iPad, I don't think I need a Nook)

Or possibly a 32" plasma-screen TV with a blu-ray player? (Thats what Doug wants to get me).

Or a piece of jewelry? My mom already bought me my gift- its a really pretty blue topaz gemstone. It's gorg. But...I have so much jewelry, and though a ring would be memorable for this occasion...I just don't know.

Or...a PUPPY?! If you know me at all, that is what I would choose..but if I can't feed myself, I probably can't feed a puppy. So, that may have to wait.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and by the way, I did finish "Just Do Something" and it was a great read. It talked about why divorce rates are so high today, and why people my age have such a difficult time making decisions. Basically, we don't have enough responsibility to force us to make a sound decision and then stick to it. It said before making a big decision, pray, talk with family and friends, and then make a decision based on the most logical choice for you. It's as simple as that! But..still.. a lot easier said than done.

"Just Do Something"

I wanted to share some quick information about a new book I've been reading. While I'm not trying to get all Reading Rainbow Book Review on everyone, I think it has some really valuable insight, especially for people my age!

"Just Do Something" by Keving DeYoung is a book about making decisions as young adults. I'm not finished with it yet, but so far I've really enjoyed it. DeYoung is a pastor at Michigan State University, and in the book he talks about "millenials" and their inability to make sound decisions. We always second-guess our choices, have buyer's remorse, or don't make any decision at all. He thinks that because there are so many choices available to us today, we are of the mind that we shouldn't settle. His advice is to look to God to guide us, and he describes ways in which we can follow God's will without having an angel drop from the sky and relay the message of where we're supposed to go to school, what job we're supposed to apply for, who we're supposed to marry, and where we're supposed to live.

With all my uncertainty and directionlessness, this book is seriously helping me calm down. I recommend it to anyone who is facing some of these same choices, especially those of us who are pre-graduation and considering all the options for our post-graduation plans!

I'll write a more detailed "book review" with all my thoughts when I finish!
