And here are a few more photos of my GrandJudy's house in Texas, a place I have loved going since I was in diapers (Not really b/c my grandmother didn't move to the country from San Antonio until I was about 7. But it IS cool that Heather will now be bringing her child in diapers there).
So, as previously mentioned, the drive sucked. Big time. Or as they say in my native tongue, Spanglish, el drivo suckdo mucho. But as a silver lining, we did see some really pretty scenery:
And after a nineteen hour drive with my mother and grandmother, this is how I felt about being in the car with them:
Just kidding mom and Grand Judy!!! Really the drive wasn't bad with them, and of course I know I would not have been able to do it alone!! I'm here thanks to them, so THANK YOU.
So anyways, FINALLY we made it, after what seemed like several light-years. And we didn't hit any traffic UNTIL we got into LA and that scared me, because it took about an hour and a half to go like ten miles, or something crazy like that. Since then, it hasn't been too bad. We moved into the apartment at Oakwood, which is on the border of Burbank and Hollywood in the media district. Burbank is where NBC and Warner Brother studios are, and it's downtown is also a really small-town feel, which I like. We've discovered a lot of smaller towns around LA that have a lot of culture and very chic/boutiquey feels.
Here are some pictures of the the drive in, apartment, the beautiful grounds here at Oakwood, and also The Grove shopping center:
The Grove Mall is right by this awesome Farmer's Market in downtown LA. There is EVERY kind of food there, so obviously, I tried them all. No really I only had sushi and Pinkberry, but I could go back for every meal between now and the time I leave LA, and STILL I don't think I would be able to sample all the types of cuisine- that's how big this place is! And at the mall, Michael Stars was debuting a new line, so they had free champagne and Sprinkles Cupcakes. Of course I went to town on the champagne, and OK gosh, the cupcake too, if you're going to pull my leg.
We have also been to a really cool little taco stand, and some other big shopping centers. LA is a really pretty place. I always thought it was Smog Central, but its actually very mountainous and kind of jungle-like, in my opinion. The temperature surprises me too. I almost get chilly at night. And the houses are beautiful. On the way to downtown LA there is a row of homes on Highland Ave. that are just amazing...they aren't all that big (approximately 2,000-3,000 square feet and around 1.5 million- don't worry I plan to buy one so I'm doing my research) but they are just very detailed with beautiful landscaping and really bright colors. They are kind of Spanish style, but some are Tudors, others are Colonial. I always like looking at homes so maybe I'll take some pictures and post them for other people to share in my Real Estate Heaven. Or is it Real Estate Hell since the houses are outrageously priced being that they are like $600 per square foot?
So to my internship. It's FREAKIN AWESOME! I love love love it. I have only been there three days. My supervisor is the show's executive producer. She is beautiful and she is the sweetest person ever, and she is so busy, but always willing to take the time to explain things to me. I have always been undecided about jobs in production (because I have always been more interested in industry and management type telecom, or on-air projects), but she really seems to enjoy her job and it makes me think it might be a ton of fun. My other supervisor is the writer, and he is really cool too, and also very helpful in my ignorance about production. I have a TON of fun with every assignment they give me. And, everyone is so relaxed and casual, and there is NO dress code (I mean I'm sure there IS, you can't just wear underwear probably, but you don't have to wear a tie is what I mean, which there is nothing wrong with a tie, but I had to wear one at Martin's Supermarket and it choked me, and I'd never like to wear one again). It's not a bunch of monkey suits running around. It is normal, absolutely friendly people, who all dress very sophisticated-casual.
So, I think this internship is definitely something for me to be excited about. Whether or not having this on my resume leads to a job, it gives me some kind of direction as to where to even LOOK for a job. And I'll finally KNOW something about SOMETHING. And its just fun.
On another note, I do miss my Bill, and my friends. And my apartment is so small and somehow also receives NO verizon service. I feel very cut off from the world. I'm thinking of switching to AT&T because my grandmother's phone has no problem!
Anyways, more updates later. I have over-excited myself and now am blogged out. Hasta Luego.
Sounds like you're having a GREAT, amazing, wonderful time in LA you rockstar! Granger is oh so lame...glad you're loving it. DON'T forget to tell Rob I said hi when you see him. He'll know who I am by name. I mean we were room mates for almost a year :) Miss you!
